Who Are We?

Food From Friends is an Akron based, family run, non-profit charity whose founders realized food insecurity was a real issue in the Firestone Park area. In 2022 we offered 4-day food bags at Thanksgiving and Christmas to a neighborhood preschool and alternative high school. We also helped start a pantry in the preschool. That year our family packed 210 bags of food in our home and knew we needed and wanted to do more.

We incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation in 2023. We worked with two additional public schools in the area and packed a total of 790 bags of food that would feed a child for four days.

While other organizations pack and distribute weekend bags, we saw a need to help when students are on holiday breaks from school. Four days of food (breakfast, lunch, fruit, snack and treat) help ensure they won’t go hungry. The size of our bags are important. The bags can’t be too heavy for a child to walk home with and four days of food fill a plastic grocery bag almost to the top.

As our organization expanded so did our volunteer base. Friends, neighbors, employees heard about our organization and wanted to get involved. Today we have over 49 volunteers who help pack and distribute the bags. After an evening of packing everyone goes home with a happy heart.

Ever Since 2022 We Have…

Packed Over 5500 Bags For Local Children In Need

Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and community donors, we’ve hosted multiple packing sessions, assembling everything from nutritious lunches to hygiene kits. These efforts have helped provide local children with essential resources they may not otherwise have access to.

Placed Food Pantries In 27 Elementary Schools

In partnership with the Akron Community Foundation Fund, we have installed pantries stocked with food, clothing, and hygiene products in 27 elementary schools across Summit County. In 2025 we are happy to announce we have expanded to include all middle and high schools in the Akron public school system!

Provided over 10,000 Meals to Children

During the summer every Friday, we provide packed lunches and weekend bags to ensure children in our Firestone Park neighborhood have nourishing meals throughout the weekend. This important work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community—we are truly grateful for your help. Thank you for making a difference together!

How Can I Help?

One goal as we move forward and grow is to continue to work with Akron Public Schools and provide additional food to those students in need. Our summer goal is to support the summer lunch program in Firestone Park and help provide enough bags for all students.

Donations help us continue our work to help end food insecurity. All of our volunteers give their precious time and many also are very generous in their monetary donations.

We don’t officially seek volunteers but we keep growing when someone tells a friend about our organization and then invites them to come help. Once they volunteer, they’re always willing to come back.
